What to Wear to Yoga

Yoga clothing has one job: disappear. Nothing should slide, dig or need adjusting when you invert, fold or hold.
Soft compression, high rise
Choose a light to medium compression legging with a buttery hand and a high, wide waistband that stays put through downward dog and shoulder stand. Full length or 7/8; both work. The critical test is opacity at full stretch in a forward fold.
Tops that stay in place upside down
A fitted crop top or a longline bra top with sufficient coverage prevents the mid-practice adjustment that breaks concentration. Avoid loose tanks unless your practice is entirely upright.
Actionable tips
- Do a forward fold in the fitting room — it answers every question at once.
- Look for seamless or flatlock construction; ridged seams become uncomfortable in floor work.
Hot yoga changes the brief
In heated rooms, choose fast-drying, ventilated knits and shorter lengths. Fabric that holds sweat becomes heavy and slippery, which affects grip and safety.
Layer for savasana
Body temperature falls quickly at the end of practice. A soft hoodie or light jacket kept beside the mat makes the final rest genuinely restorative.
